The TDF is a leading European Documentary Festival, carried out every March in Thessaloniki since its inception in 1999 under the artistic direction of Dimitri Eipides. Its main thematic sections are: Recordings of Memory, Portraits-Human Journeys, Stories to Tell, Habitat, Planet in Peril, Music, Views of the World, Greek Panorama. Through its tributes and retrospectives, the TDF focuses on filmmakers with unique cinematic voices, internationally renowned for their contribution to the documentary genre. The Festival’s side events host exhibitions, masterclasses, round table discussions, publications, concerts and parties.

BUFF, the International Children and Young People's Film Festival in Malmö, was founded in 1984 and is a non-profit organization. The aim was, and still is, to screen good films for children and young people as well as adults. A meeting place for people working with children, young people and film. BUFF strives to open the possibilities for more influences from Europe and the rest of the world by showing films that might never be screened otherwise. In the cinema we get to meet different cultures, hear foreign languages and tag along on endless adventures. BUFF considers children and young people to be the most exciting resource we´ve got, our future. Since 1995, BUFF is an official Swedish film festival, an assignment given by the Swedish Film Institute. About 100 films are shown during the six days of the festival, with screenings both day and night. BUFF arranges seminars and discussions for teachers, film-makers and cultural workers aiming to inspire the children and youth film.

Fußball und Film entdeckten ihre Gemeinsamkeiten – der „Fußballfilm“ hat sich als eigene Gattung etabliert. Die Zuschauer sind inzwischen bereit, sich auf Fußballfilme, auf Fußballfilmstoffe einzulassen. Das hat natürlich auch damit zu tun, dass der Fußball immer breitere gesellschaftliche Schichten erreicht. Und es werden inzwischen auch gute Geschichten erzählt. Es gibt wunderschöne Bilder, Akteure für die man große Sympathien oder Antipathien hegt, es gibt Siege, Triumphe, bittere Niederlagen, tragische Helden – es ist in beidem alles gegeben. Fußball ist eines der wenigen verbliebenen übergreifenden Themenfelder der Gesellschaft. Hinter dem Ball verschwinden alle Partikularinteressen.

Da wir auch dieses Jahr von der brasilianischen Botschaft unterstützt werden, kann CINEBRASIL, wie im letzten Jahr, wieder auf Tournee gehen. Die Tour beginnt im Oktober in Saarbrücken und wird in den folgenden Monaten in vielen deutschen und schweizer Städten zu sehen sein. Das Festival in Berlin findet nicht, wie gewohnt, im November statt, sondern vom 18.-21.MÄRZ 2010 IM KINO BABYLON-MITTE...

Since it was created 31 years ago, the Cinéma du Réel has become the outstanding documentary film festival in France. Open to a wide diversity of writing, forms and ideas, it now gathers a faithful, curious and broad-based public. Festival screening at: the Centre Pompidou, the Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles, the MK2 Beaubourg film theatre and several other theatres in the Ile-de-France area.

1980 gab es in der Schweiz praktisch keinen Verleih für Filme aus Afrika, Asien und Lateinamerika. Anlässlich des 25-jährigen Bestehens von Helvetas organisierten die Westschweizer Sekretariate der wichtigsten Hilfswerke des Landes eine in einigen Westschweizer Städten gezeigte Wandervorführung von sieben Filmen aus diesen Kontinenten. Die Grundidee war einfach: Man wollte die kulturelle Vielfalt Afrikas, Asiens und Lateinamerikas einem grösseren Publikum zeigen. Der Erfolg bewegte die Veranstalter, das Experiment fortzusetzen: Das Dritte-Welt-Filmfestival war geboren. 1986 liess sich das Festival in Freiburg nieder, wo die Vorführungen das grösste Echo gefunden hatten, und wechselte von den Pfarrei- in die Kinosäle. Zugleich fand der erste offizielle Wettbewerb um den Verleihförderpreis statt. Die Idee, Filme auf Wanderschaft zu schicken, wurde allerdings nicht völlig aufgegeben. Die in Freiburg präsentierte Auswahl war in den Wochen nach dem Festival in einem guten Dutzend Städten der Westschweiz und des Tessins zu sehen.

The festival will take place at the National Media Museum and will span 11 days packed full of your favourite strands including Widescreen Weekend, plus premieres and previews. We will be inviting plenty of special guests, so film fans can hear the stories behind their favourite stars and movies through talks and screenings.
