The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote all the various aspects of international cinema in all its forms: as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and tolerance. The Festival includes retrospectives and homages to major figures as a contribution towards raising awareness of the history of cinema. Marco Müller is the Director of the 67th edition. He has been heading the Venice Biennale's Cinema section since 2004.

The Film Festival was created in 1996 as a reaction to the moribund state of the British film industry, to provide a forum for new film-makers and give exposure to movies on different formats. Erstmalig findet während des Festivals in Zusammenarbeit mit Creativity Media und mit Unterstützung der Wirtschaftsförderung Oldenburg ein Speed Pitch statt, bei dem ausgewählte Filmemacher ihr aktuelles Projekt eingeladenen Branchenvertretern vorstellen können.

The important japanese anime director Satoshi Kon has passed away. The director died suddenly on August 24 at the age of 46. The cause of death has been reported as pancreatic cancer. During his final years, Kon was working on the film THE DREAMING MACHINE. It is unclear at this point, whether the film will be finished wiothout its writer/director. The last finished work by Kon, the 2006 film PAPRIKA, was seen in HIFF in 2007. Also other films by the author, MILLENNIUM ACTRESS, MEMORIES and PERFECT BLUE have been shown in HIFF in various years.

This year the Festival will be celebrating its 58th consecutive edition with the same enthusiasm felt the day it first saw the light on September 21st 1953. Conceived as an International Film Week for the purpose of screening and marketing films, it was not long before the IFFPA granted it B status (non-competitive), thanks to the success of its first edition. A year later it was called the International Film Festival, and in 1955 the IFFPA recognised the festival as competitive, specialising in colour films. In other words, it could now grant official prizes. This marked the emergence of the "Concha", or shell - at the time only awarded in silver - determined by an international jury.

PriFilmFest 2010 will introduce Middle-length film program that includes films from 30 to 60 minutes, filmed on 35mm, 16mm and digital. Reykjavik International Film Festival (RIFF) was founded in 2004 by a group of film enthusiasts and professionals with the goal of creating an annual international film festival in Reykjavik. The aim is to establish a major film event to enrich and enliven the local film culture, but moreover, to become an international attraction. We believe that by building up an innovative film festival in Reykjavik, our foreign guests will have a unique opportunity to participate in an exciting cultural event, as well as visiting a country renowned for its natural wonders and dynamic culture. The festival organized its first event in Reykjavik in November 2004, initiating a discussion of the role and importance of film festivals in a local and international context. A festival program was organized in relation to the seminar, showing films by Icelandic film directors and professionals that work outside of Iceland.

The Haifa International Film Festival is held each year during the holiday of Succoth on the ridge of Mount Carmel overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The Festival was founded in 1983 and was the first of its kind in Israel. Over the years, the Festival became the biggest and most important film celebration in Israel. The Haifa International Film Festival brings together each year an ever-growing audience of 60,000 spectators along with hundreds of Israeli and foreign professionals from the film and television industries. 180,000 people in total take part in the activities of the festival, including the outdoor events, screenings, workshops and more, and dozens of journalists from both the print and broadcast media, from Israel and abroad, cover the event. During its eight days of celebration, the Festival proudly premieres 150 new films from the best and most recent international productions and holds 220 screenings in seven theaters and under the sky: feature films, documentaries, animation, short films, retrospectives and tributes.

Das Internationale Filmfestival für Kinder und junges Publikum SCHLINGEL feiert in diesem Jahr seinen 15. Geburtstag. Mehr als 600 Filme flimmerten seither über die Leinwand. Filme, die Besucher und Fachpublikum gleichermaßen bewegten. Dieses Jubiläum nahmen wir zum Anlass, um mit Filmplakaten eine Zeitreise durch vergangene SCHLINGEL-Editionen zu unternehmen. Vom 9. bis 29. Juli 2010 waren im Bürgerfoyer des Sächsischen Landtages internationale Originalplakate der wichtigsten Kinderfilme aus 15 Jahren Festivalgeschichte zu sehen.

Since 1992 Raindance has been offering advice and support for independent fimmakers. We started the Raindance Film Festival in 1993, and the British Independent Film Awards in 1998. We also have a training programme that has had remarkable success. Presently there are nine of us working out of our office in Soho, London. Although we are London-based we are on the look-out for anyone who might like to work with us in another city or country. We are always looking for new ideas, or your stories about your movie.
