„Wir werden die Oscars am 24. Februar präsentieren“
der Präsident der amerikanischen Filmakademie, Sid Ganis.

Mit jeweils acht Nominierungen gehen die Filme „There Will Be Blood“ (der Film ist auf der diesjährigen Berlinale im Wettbewerb vertreten) und „No Country for Old Men“ als klare Favoriten in die diesjährige Oscar-Verleihung. "Abbitte" und "Michael Clayton" erhielten beide je sieben Nominierungen. Die Organisatoren der Oscar-Verleihung zeigten sich auch unter dem Eindruck der Golden Globes weiter zuversichtlich, dass die Gala wie geplant mit Stars und Glamour stattfindet - zur Not auch ohne Autoren.

In der Kategorie "Bester ausländischer Film" wurde unter anderem die deutsch-österreichische Koproduktion "Die Fälscher" nominiert. DIE FÄLSCHER war offizieller Wettbewerbsbeitrag der 57. Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin 2007 und war in 7 Kategorien für den Deutschen Filmpreis 2007 nominiert. Devis Striesow erhielt den Deutschen Filmpreis am 4.5.2007 als "Bester Nebendarsteller". Desweiteren sind "Beaufort" (Israel), "Katyn" (Polen), "Der Mongole" (Kasachstan) und "12" (Russland) nominiert. Nicht nominiert ist "Auf der anderen Seite" von Fatih Akin.

Als bester Animationsfilm geht "Persepolis" in das Rennen um die begehrte Statue. Cate Blanchett wurde gleich zweimal gesetzt. Für das Kostümdrama "Elizabeth - Das goldene Königreich" und ihre Darstellung des Musikers Bob Dylan in "I'm Not There" wurde sie jeweils als beste Haupt- und als Nebendarstellerin nominiert.

Der Oscar wird am 24. Februar im "Kodak Theatre" in Los Angeles zum 80. Mal von der Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences vergeben. Den Ehren-Oscar für sein Lebenswerk erhält der 98-jährige Filmausstatter Robert Boyle ("Der unsichtbare Dritte").
